particles of existence / cząsteczki istniena (2022 – 2023)

Nasze przebudzenia, strzępy snów, nie całkiem jeszcze zatarte poczucie innego wymiaru istnienia, a już w zasięgu oka – niczym fotografia – jutrzenka widzialnego. Najtrudniej sfotografować to, czego nie ma. Ale co to znaczy „nie ma”? Czy, że czegoś nie ma w sensie fizycznym, czy też chodzi o to, że owo coś jest niewyrażalne?

Tryptyk cząsteczki istnienia, powstał w 2023, po mojej kolejnej wizycie w Beskidzie Niskim.
Tam, 10 lat temu, podczas warsztatów z Bogdanem Konopką poznałam inny wymiar fotografii, ale też dowiedziałam się więcej o historii tego miejsca.

Teren niezwykły, gdzie przez lata, we wspólnych osadach i wioskach zamieszkiwali ludzie różnych narodowości: Łemkowie, Ukraińcy, Żydzi. W 1947 r. na skutek przeprowadzonej akcji “Wisła” nastąpiło masowe przesiedlenie ludności.

Dziś Bogdana już z nami nie ma, a echa przeszłości tych terenów pozostały obecne w ludzkiej pamięci w opowieściach, na pustych polach, w drzewach i w tej szczególnej ciszy..

 

 

Our awakenings, shreds of dreams, not yet completely erased sense of another dimension of existence, and already in the reach of the eye – like a photograph – the dawn of the visible. The hardest thing is to photograph what is absent. But what does it mean absent? Is it that something is not here in a physical sense, or is it that it is inexpressible?

This work is the result of my visits to the Low Beskids, a region in the Polish mountains. Ten years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Bogdan Konopka, who imparted valuable knowledge about photography and enriched my understanding of the area’s history.

During our time there, we captured photographs and explored the region’s historical landmarks. It’s an exceptional area where, throughout the years, people of various nationalities coexisted in shared villages and towns, including Lemkos, Ukrainians, and Jews. In 1947, as part of the ‘Vistula’ resettlement operation, those local communities and villages were removed from the area.

Today, the echoes of this region’s past persist in the memories of its people, the open fields, fruit-bearing trees, tales, and a unique kind of silence..
